Recognizing Symptoms

A history of a previous incident is often helpful in identifying existing wire damage. Many electrical fires can be prevented if property owners recognize a possible symptom. To an untrained eye, something that is familiar or accepted as normal can be dangerous. Below are symptoms reported by fire victims prior to an event:

  • Previous Fires / Lightning Events
  • Intermittent Power Outages
  • Mysterious Smells
  • Unusual Noises / Sounds
  • TV, Radio, Phone, Computer Interference
  • Appliance Failure / Performance
  • Flickering, Bright or Dim Lights
  • Higher Electric Bills
  • Blown Breakers / Fuses / GFCI Outlets
  • Charred Outlet / Switches
  • Frequent Bulb Replacement
  • Warm-To-Touch Panels, Outlets / Switches
  • Electric Shocks
  • Green / Blue Colored Water
  • Pipe Leaks / Electrolysys
